Just a little About Me

My art is not just a reflection of me, but of someone who seeks to know God.

Hi! I’m Denisse! I teach science to high school kids and while I love it, art is my passion. Ever since I can remember, I have loved to create. My love for art actually came from my dad who was (and still is) an amazing artist.

I am Mexican-American born in California raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. The eldest daughter of two hardworking and immigrant parents. Growing up anyone who knew me, knew I was an artist as well as a very sharp student. In my family I was the first to graduate high school (besides my dad) and the first to go to a university. So I knew, I couldn’t let anyone down. Naturally, I didn’t go into the arts to study my passion, but instead decided to explore a little and eventually landed in the natural sciences. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology with the intent to continue my education either in medical school or a Post Doctoral Program. However, I decided to take a break from all the studying to work while I do the one thing I’ve always loved: art.

My introduction to Christ came during my first year of college; an old friend from high school had apparently turned his life around. This kid used to run around playing with drugs, guns, and gangs so when he told me he had stopped all of that, I was intrigued to say the least. He talked to me about God and Jesus and how much God loved me, I liked that. He also told me we were all sinners who needed Christ’s sacrifice (including me), I did NOT like that.

After what seemed like weeks of strange and supernatural encounters, I knew I had to turn to Jesus, what else could I do? I tell people now that God chased me down because not only was I not looking for Him, I was actively avoiding Him. Well, 15 years later, I am convinced that giving my life to Jesus was the best decision I ever made.

My life hasn’t been easy, even after I accepted Christ, many difficult things happened. However, through it all I have experienced God’s goodness in everything. I have experienced peace, joy, hope, love, and I have seen and heard incredible things, things I can never forget. And this is why I create. This is what I was created to do: share a glimpse, a shadow, of the glory that is to come. I want my art to be a portal into the kingdom of God. I want my art to give hope, wonder, and peace. I want my art to show my own journey with God. I want my art to bless anyone who sees it.

We do not know exactly what God has prepared for those who love Him, but we know it is more incredible, more glorious than anything we could ever imagine.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” - 1Corinthians 2:9
