What is prophetic art?

To me, prophetic art is pretty self explanatory: art that communicates what God is saying. Now, I do want to preface by saying this; with everything I see, I try to balance my faith with a healthy fear of God.

I believe art can express that which is unseen, the spiritual. Our imagination & creativity as human beings are a part of what makes us image bearers of God. This means we ALL have the capacity to create, however that may look.

Prophetic art takes on the Christian belief that God not only speaks to His children (believers) but He can and does place pictures and visions in their minds to strengthen not only the faith of the Christian but also, those who do not believe. The point of prophecy is to strengthen the church and to help people overcome their unbelief.

“But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭3‬
“But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭24‬-‭25‬
  • It all begins with prayer and communion with God. Getting on your knees and just being present. No distractions just watching & listening. Sometimes we may start to pray out loud (talking to God), making petitions, giving him praise, or just grieving. Other times we might just sing to him, I think this way is the way I usually get the most pleasure and joy. Then the pictures usually start flooding in.

  • Some visions are just for us, other times they are to relay a message. Praying with other believers helps to not only strengthen our own faith but also get a clearer relay of the message that is being perceived. This is so much fun because you get to hear different ways other believers hear God.

  • A prophetic word or a “word of knowledge” can express itself in many ways: a Bible verse, a word that keeps appearing, a picture, a feeling, a song, colors, even smells! God can communicate however He decides. I happen to be drawn more to pictures and visions. This is why creating my vision artwork can take a lot of time. The pictures are already in my head but not completely clear and finding a reference photo (which is how most professional artists create their work) can be difficult. However, the visions become clearer and clearer as I paint them though, so the creation process that goes into these works are entirely worship. :)

Meet Me in the Sky

Like the vastness of the ocean, what I saw was both glorious and terrifying.

I was driving home from work and the sky was a beautiful sunset red and orange.
